The 29th CTC was held on Tuesday, 8th September 2009 at the British Society for Haematology Headquarters, London. The meeting was well attended with 18 attendees, including the lead investigators in active studies.
I opened the meeting with a brief discussion of the formatting of the CTC Processes and procedures for work. In place now are a Trial proposal template, template for peer-review of trial proposals and an authorship policy. Work was now needed to develop a CTC Standard Operating Procedure, which will be drafted by Mrs Keiren Kirkland and worked on with myself and Emma Morris.
At present there are 5 manuscripts from CTC studies in preparation or recently submitted. The Committee considered 8 new study proposals including 2 prospective studies. The 2 prospective studies included a full intensity protocol for UCB in patients with haematological disease and another prospective study representing collaboration between the CTC, the NCRI Myeloma sub-group and UKMF (RevRIC) for allogeneic stem cell transplantation in Myeloma. The new study portfolio remains healthy and the recently adopted streamlined approach for progressing new study ideas appears to be working.
The CTC Trials portfolio contains 7 prospective and 5 retrospective studies including 1 phase III prospect study (UKMF/BSBMT Myeloma X study: CTC 05-02), the Phase II National Reduced Intensity Double Cord protocol led by Rachel Hough (CTC 04-02) and the Phase II Study of Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation in Mantle Cell Lymphoma (lead investigator Simon Rule: CTC 07-01). Of the retrospective studies, a collaboration with Dr Jerry Brown, Respiratory Physician at UCH (pulmonary function testing post allogeneic stem cell transplantation; CTC 09-01) was underway.
Finally, the CTC discussed how we may up-load the trial protocols on the website and in essence, we will up-load the CTC Agendas, which list the individual trials and PIs, who could be contacted for further information on that study in addition to contacting myself, Emma Morris or Keiren Kirkland.
The next planned meeting is due in January 2010.
